Hi Candidate,
Welcome to Day 2: Handling things you can't control. This week I'm showing you several mental frameworks to help you master your inner psychology. I call these "Success Triggers."
Yesterday I showed you how to master your internal critic and stop feeling guilty.
Today, we'll go deeper, because there's more to negative mindsets than our inner critic.
What about the negative thoughts and worries that come from things you can't control?
How many of us worry about the economy, what our friend thought of our accidentally rude comment, our parents' health, and hundreds of other things we can't control? Not just once — we worry about these things every day.
In today's lesson, I'll show you one simple technique to eliminate 99% of your worries. You'll see how top performers handle world politics, people they don't like, and the ambiguous "future" — all vague things they can't control.
How to eliminate 99% of your worries
People love to worry about practically anything — politics, relationships, gas prices, other people, whatever.
The craziest part is that a lot of what we worry about are things we can't control.
My technique to eliminate 99% of my worries is this:
Focus on what you can control. Ignore what you can't.
It might sound obvious, but if you take a look at the way you talk about things, you might find that you focus a lot of time on things completely out of your control.
For example: the economy. It's easy to take a look at headlines about unemployment and start worrying. These are serious issues and we're going through a global pandemic — but what good does worrying ultimately do?
Instead, consider what you can do about it, like searching for a job (yes, there are still good jobs out there), saving for an emergency fund (I recommend 12 months), and maxing out your retirement accounts.
And ignore everything else.
Think about your own life. What are the 3 things that are worrying you the most right now? Write them down on a sheet of paper or Google Doc. Then think of different ways you can control those things.
Worried about unemployment? Start your job search now by emailing your network for leads.
Worried about money? Get your financial house in order by automating your finances.
By doing the things you can control, you start to put yourself in the driver's seat of your own destiny. That simple reframing can unlock a TON of potential for you, effectively putting you ahead of the vast majority of others who would rather spend their time worrying.
How? Because you have the right mental frameworks. And top performers know that having the right mental frameworks can create disproportionate rewards in all areas of life.
I'll show you what I mean:
The 3 Success Triggers I'm sharing with you this week have been the cornerstone to writing a New York Times best-selling book, earning millions, and helping hundreds of thousands of students make massive changes in their lives.
And that's just 3 Success Triggers!
I've actually systematically studied and tested MANY more. Then I culled the list down to 30 of the most powerful and put these 30 ready-to-apply Success Triggers together in one course for you.
Many other "experts" will give you productivity tips, new shiny apps, and cute sayings to inspire you for 10 minutes.
Monday, I talked about the YEARS I spent looking for the magic bullet to success. The right words to say or action steps to take to skyrocket my success. What I found was that these "tips and tricks" don't really matter — even the technically correct answers won't work if you don't have the right mindset to integrate them.
So today I want to share ALL 30 of the curated Success Triggers with you.
These psychological frameworks will help you go from negative thinking to positive thinking...from scarcity to abundance...from low confidence to supreme confidence, and I'm opening up access today.
And I share them in my own words, with my own specific examples for each Success Trigger.
