Candidate,

This week, I'm sharing 3 life-changing "Success Triggers" to master your inner psychology and become a top performer.

Today is Day 1: Mastering yourself. In this video, we'll look closely at guilt — why we feel it, what it does, and how to stop beating yourself up all the time.

We often think that guilt motivates us to change, but in reality, guilt just makes us feel bad. When we feel bad, we're more likely to give up.

Once we learn how to recognize and address the guilt we feel, we can make room for a more productive mindset. It's not as difficult as you might think.

How to stop beating yourself up

Finished? Great! What did you notice?

A few quick takeaways:

  • "I really should do that" is code for "actually, I'm not going to do it at all."

  • How you describe yourself becomes your self-concept. "I want to do that, but I'm just really lazy." Focus on getting one quick win to overcome this.

  • Develop a mindset of abundance, not scarcity. E.g., "Instead of dropping sweets/carbs/TV completely, I'm going to give myself one cheat day a week and do whatever I want, guilt-free."

  • 4 steps to overcome guilt:
    • Step 1: Acknowledge the guilt and examine it like a scientist.
    • Step 2: Use the five whys technique. "Why am I actually doing this?"
    • Step 3: Write it down.
    • Step 4: Come back to this tomorrow and take action.

Overall, you should realize that feeling guilty doesn't motivate you to change, it just makes you feel bad. True behavioral change is a result of triggers in our lives (e.g., a 10-year high school reunion, an old dress that doesn't fit anymore, or a friend having a baby).

Tomorrow is Day 2: Handing things you can't control. In just a few minutes, I'll show you one simple technique to eliminate 99% of your worries.

See you then.

P.S. Later this week, I'll also give you the chance to access all 30 of my Success Triggers if you're serious about mastering their inner psychology. (If that's not you, no worries… you'll still get two more Success Triggers as my gift to you.)
