| | | | As people across the globe are being told to stay put in their homes, it's not surprising to see some companies suffering more than others. There's a wide range of familiar companies that have experienced steep price declines, so you may be wondering if now is an opportunity to buy individual stocks. This week's article explores the risks and opportunities of investing in individual stocks, plus I share a few examples of well-known companies that are down more than 50% from their highs. | | | Highlights From Staying at Home
Staying home isn't perfect, but there are some positives from the experience. Last week I highlighted the drastic increase in my time spent outdoors. This week I'd like to take a moment to talk about the change of pace in my daily life.
The pace of my normal daily life is rushed. It sometimes feels like being on a merry-go-round that never stops to let you off.
It starts right when we wake up...We rush to get the kids out the door to school, then we rush to squeeze in a workout, then we rush to the office, then we rush pick up the kids, then we rush to get dinner on the table...At this point we usually get 30-60 minutes to catch our breath before the bedtime routine kicks in. Once that's over, we rush to address unfinished work items before going to bed and starting all over again the next day.
I didn't realize it until recently, but all that rushing around created a lot of anxiety. These days we have fewer deadlines, no commutes, and a lot more quality time with each other.
Obviously everyone is in a different stage of life, but I'm sure you feel the slower pace too. Maybe it's the ability to lay in bed for a while in the morning. Maybe it's enjoying a longer shower or sitting down to breakfast with your significant. Maybe it's taking an evening walk.
While we all want to get back to normal, make sure to enjoy the slower pace wherever it shows up in your life.
