Why every domain is not sold at a premium price?
Why some people make thousands of dollars by selling a single domain and many others stuck with zero profit?
The secret is domain selling is an art and the art of selling is hidden in buying.
The same mistake people do in the stock market. They look at the market price of stock and buy wrong stocks. The value of stock in hidden in the annual reports & balance sheets. Stock exchange is just a place to buy/sell.
If you invest in good stock then you will make profit whether you sell at NSE or BSE.
Similarly you will make profit from good domains whether you sell at sedo or godaddy.
People email me that they have bought some domains but they are not finding any good platform to sell. People think if they get the right platform, they would be able to sell that useless domain.
A big NO.
Some people email me and offer 50% profit share if I help them selling the domain name. But I am not a broker. Even a broker doesn't have a magic wand that can sell a crap domain at a high value.
Brokers can also help you selling good domains, similar to domain listing platforms.
Ok, let me tell you why my domain "Contentstack.com" sold at a premium price of $15,000.
Contentstack.com was purchased by an American firm who were launching a Content Management Software product with brand name "Content Stack".
As soon as they bought the domain, they registered the trademark. They knew the brand value that Contentstack.com could provide to their business is way higher than what they were paying to buy the domain.
They have premium category software products charging thousand dollars per month to their customers. $15K is very less investment for a company of that level.
Honestly I was not aware of their complete business otherwise I could have got more than $15K.
But I have no regret because even $15000 is decent value for a domain.
The right price is where both parties are happy. I am happy because I made good money from a domain that I bought in less than $100. They are happy because they got a premium domain at a cheaper price.
Being a Kanjoos Baniya, I always calculate ROI of the business before investing.
So in the next email, I'll talk about the ROI of domain selling and how you can plan your first year ROI.
