I was nervous when I was publishing my first article.

My mind was thinking - "What people will say after reading my first post. I had never written any article before."

My heart was sinking when my hands were trying to hit the publish button.

Negative thoughts covered my mind like black clouds.

15th April 2014, I published my first post.

It was just 4 paragraphs of my thoughts about Quitting the job and feeling motivated on Mondays

Quickly read this - http://pardeepgoyal.blogspot.in so that you can understand what I am going to tell you.

By publishing an average looking post, I conquered my fears.

Do you know how many days it took me to complete that first post?
7 days.

Yes, 7 days and I have written only 350 words.

But first steps are like that only.

Like a baby. Stepping 2 inch ahead and then falling. Then trying again and again till the baby starts walking without any support.

My first post gave me the confidence that I can write. That confidence was worth million dollars.

Tomorrow I will share on the topic "Day 2: Selecting a profitable blog idea" so that you won't feel lost in the crowd.
If you can't wait for tomorrow, then look for a magical accelerated link at the bottom of the email.

The biggest mistake was starting my blog on a free domain/hosting of Blogspot that never gave me the motivation to write regularly.

I became more serious about blogging when I started my blog on self-hosted domain cashoverflow.in

Anyways,

I am supposed to share the side benefits of blogging today.

#1. Learning Digital Marketing

In 2014, I was working on my first startup SchoolGennie. My goal was to learn digital marketing along with the technical work that I was doing in my startup.

Blogging is one of the cheapest and most effective ways to learn digital marketing and making money.

Read that again.. It's the cheapest way.. not the quickest way to make money.

Even if you are not planning to make money from a blog, you can still learn marketing tactics by doing practice on your blog.

That's how I became an expert at content marketing.

I did not worry about making money from blogging in my initial days. CashOverflow was my hobby blog.

You can start a blog for practice and you never know when that can become the primary source of your income.

#2. Help Others

Since CashOverflow was a hobby blog for me, I was actually trying to help people in saving money on credit cards, shopping, and income taxes.

I learned financial hacks because I am from a Baniya family. I belong to a community where we are taught to save money wherever possible.

I helped others to save money. Similarly, you can help thousands of people through your blog.

I am sure you must be having at least 3-4 such skills. Isn't it?

C'mon, you can help someone in
travel,
cooking food,
farming,
playing games,
music,
smart shopping,
sales,
marketing,
storytelling,
making presentations,
teaching tools like Excel,
GDB, Automation testing,
designing, coding,
parenting..

I can keep going on.. because it's unlimited.

(Hint: In the next email, I will talk about selecting the best topic for a profitable niche blog)

#3. Finding a Job

You can put your blog link in your resume. If you are showing your skills on your blog then your employer will know more about you even before the interview.

Anyways, that was not my purpose of blogging because I wanted to get the freedom from regular job life.

But blogging can help you land a new job.

#4. Finding Freelance Work

Yes, that's how I used my blog to get my first paid freelance work. (My client was paying me Rs. 2000 per article)

I was looking for paid writing work in 2015 (after failing at my startups). My clients got impressed with my existing articles on my blog and gave me paid writing work.

If you are looking for freelance work in any domain (Designing, SEO, Marketing, Sales), just showcase your skills on your blog.

Trust me, the chances of getting paid freelance work with an increase by 10x when you have the same thing on your blog.

We have written this article to explain how you can get freelance writing work that can pay you as much as Rs. 5000 per article.

#5. Blogging as a Business

That's what I do now and that's what I teach others. You can make your living by running your blog as a business.

I am sort of expert in doing that now..
I have created multiple websites and blogs in past 2 years and making a regular income from my blogs.

I have blogs related to personal finance, digital marketing, travel, parenting, fashion, and shopping.

So I am helping a small community of bloggers & entrepreneurs.

I have created a Facebook group for people who are running their blogs as a business.
You can join our Facebook Community (Blogging As Business) by clicking here

We don't allow any spam or self-promotional activities. It's only for learning from each other.

#6. Monetising Side Skills

With time, I acquired some side skills related to blogging that I started monetizing.
  • Like I learned the value in the domain names. I started buying premium domain names and sold my first domain at a valuation of $15,000 last year. Yes, that's almost 9,60,000 Rs. by selling just a website domain.
  • Another skill is content marketing, that I am monetizing by giving consultation to startups. I charge Rs. 5000 per hour and Rs. 100,000 per month from clients.
  • Then I started paid courses last year. My paid courses and workshops charges range between Rs. 2000 to Rs. 30,000.
There are multiple ways you can make money once you started a blog and learned enough skills.

It may take 3 months, 6 months or even 12 months.

The more you learn, the more you earn.

Yours truly,
Pardeep Goyal

PS:

If you want to earn before learning - then you will never get success.

We spent 20 years in school and college to learn, in the expectation of a job earning. Now how can you expect to earn from a medium that you never learned in your school?

Give yourself some time to learn the new skills that work on the internet.

I am not asking you to pay me anything. Invest your money in a good domain, website design and hosting services (the basic infrastructure).

Blogging can be learned free of cost.

Once you are at a higher stage of your blogging, you may find paid courses on Udemy and similar platforms to learn advanced things.
